Hi Michael. Great article, I agree with all you said. I was stuck for a long time too. I got a job in the industry but this is still not what I want to do. I am looking for someone who could give me any advice/ guidance how to improve. Do you think you could have a look at my portfolio? I would greatly appreciate that. At this moment I'm working on getting my portfolio on behance so I can present my projects more in depth. For now I'm keeping my portfolio in this form: https://issuu.com/alexkania/docs/portfolio_2024 (some of the projects I need to create new renders for as they are a bit old and unpolished) the holiday house and organic interior modelling are the newest so that's the level I'm on at this moment). If you happy to take on some mentoring, please reply to this comment so we can connect on linkedin/behance or whatever platform :) Thanks!
Hi Michael, thank you for the reply! Atm I'm working as an playground designer but I want to go into stuff that were more related to what I was doing at uni which are products, furnitures etc, unfortunatelly can't see many positions like that. When I started some courses and I did those exterior/ interior scenes that is definately something that intrest me and I did also some interior design course and I love this stuff so seems like everything is connected with interior/exterior/furniture topic. I started applying recently after long break, found one furniture opp but no luck (I know one is not enough haha). Regards architectural visualisation seems quite often they expect you to already have few years experience with that. I'm just wondering if I should polish my portfolio before I even start applying, this takes time and I don't want to lose those opportunities, but still have so much to show, right now I'm working on few lamp projects. (btw. I was considering getting into game industry but that would require totally new set of skills and portfolio and even considering If I should go into environment, characters, animation or all at once seems a bit overwhelming). I guess in general I'm just trying to find my way to be the best I can as a 3D Artist. Let me know what you think :) Thanks
Don’t think of applying for positions and polishing your reel as an either/or situation. You need to do both at the same time.
Your holiday house renders and playground visualizations are very well done and help build a nice professional portfolio. The other projects are not up to the same level and I would pull those out for now and add new projects as you continue to build.
Thank you! It’s great to hear that. What do you think about portfolio visibility? Would you say behance is good option? Or should I keep applying with the book type of presentation? Or is there other form you would recommend? Thanks

Hey Alex! What are the roles/positions you are applying for? Are you looking into Architectural Visualization or other industries?
