Today, I am thrilled to introduce the launch of the new 3D Artist Community!
This community is designed for any 3D Artist who is feeling stuck in their current situation. Maybe you are disheartened by the state of the VFX, Animation, and Gaming industries and looking for a career path for a 3D Artist outside of entertainment.
Maybe you are a Material Artist at a VFX house and want to learn what it takes to become a Color, Material, and Finishing (CMF) designer for a fashion brand.
Maybe you are creating product visualizations but you are curious about what it would be like to do 3D footwear design.
Whatever the situation, this community aims to bring people together to broaden their career horizons and explore the vast potential of 3D artistry.
Why Create This Community?
The VFX, Gaming, and Animation industries are in a rough spot. Jobs are scarce and the layoffs just keep coming. Even on a good day, the industry can be full of long hours, low pay, and contract work that leaves you bouncing all over the world and unable to settle your life in one location.
After being laid off, I began to feel that my skills were only valuable in the entertainment sector. I questioned whether this would be the extent of my career and whether I would ever have the opportunity to settle down. It felt like being stuck on a never-ending hamster wheel.
This community will be all about expanding your knowledge of what is available for you as a 3D Artist. I’m here to tell you that there is a wide world of opportunities for 3D artists outside the entertainment world, including stable jobs, well-paying jobs, and the type of overall security you’ve always wanted in your career.
But what are those job titles? What kinds of companies are these? Will your old skills be enough, or must you learn a tool or workflow before applying? Where would I go to know that?
That’s what this community is meant to be. I wanted to create a place where you can collaborate with your peers, learn about new opportunities in the 3D world, and request the type of training you need to be successful in the wide new world of 3D for everyone.
What Makes Our Community Different?
Most online communities offer a place to chat, but few provide tangible value and true connections to the community members. Our community is designed to be different. Here's how:
Small Entry Fee: There’s a modest fee to join, which will fund resources, workshops, and events tailored to help you transition into new areas of 3D artistry. This will also help keep out bots or the bad actors you find on the free platforms.
Ownership: You have ownership over how this community grows. I will be open and transparent about the money collected for the community, and we will all have a say in how those funds will be used.
Exclusive Platform: Hosted on Skool, a premium platform designed for communities like this to ensure quality interactions and access to necessary tools like a shared calendar and space for recorded workshops and events.
Our Vision for the Community
This community is about redefining what it means to be a 3D artist. New technologies and tools are constantly being released, and the workflows and role of a 3D artist is always evolving. This community will be your central hub to stay ahead of the curve and understand the entire 3D industry.
